Since the birth of the automobile, taillights have been an indispensable part of safe driving. In addition to safety, the importance of design is also increasingly valued.
From the moment the automobile was invented, taillights have been an indispensable part of driving safety. Beyond safety, the importance of design is also increasingly valued.
Before the advent of LED technology, achieving original taillight designs using traditional bulbs presented significant challenges. However, with advancements in LED technology and innovations in various car light manufacturing processes, a series of optical innovations have emerged. Current taillights have become increasingly complex, integrating more advanced functions. Furthermore, due to digitalization, taillight functions now incorporate more dynamic effects, going beyond simple on/off functionality.
Trend 1: Variable Position/Brake Lights
In 2014, Volkswagen first introduced a new taillight function on the Passat model. The taillights could selectively switch between position lights and brake lights. Switching from position lights to brake lights involved not only an increase in brightness but also a change in shape and position, significantly enhancing the brake light's visibility.
Humans are generally more sensitive to moving objects. Therefore, variable position/brake lights are not just a design change but also a functional improvement, significantly enhancing taillight visibility and improving road safety. The visual effect is particularly noticeable when the position and brake lights switch at night. Today, LED taillights with this switching function are commonly used in other Volkswagen models.
